06:38 AM ET 04.11 | The Philadelphia Eagles are likely to select a quarterback at the NFL Draft in less than two weeks, the question is who and whereif you are a super fan of one particular football team,i bet you will go to see their games on the scene After trading Donovan McNabb, the Eagles have just two quarterbacks on their roster: Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick, There are still rumors that Vick may be traded before next season, too. That means the Eagles will need to add at least one and possibly two quarterbacks, With the 24th pick in the draft, Philadelphia won't see an elite quarterback fall to their position, but the team has 11 picks this year and could package a few of them to move up if the situation is right.

i wouldnt say there are "a lot",Brandon Graham Eagles jersey; of good qb's theres only like 5-6 of them and of those you could say that possibly 2-3 will be potentially good. w/ that being said i dont think theres talent enuf to ",Jason Pierre-Paul Giants jersey;move" up considerably to take one. bradford will b gone w/ tha first pick and after that u have mccoy and tebow as the 2nd teir qb's and no need moving up to get either of em

I mean they got rid of donovan to give kolb the reigns.....
Going for a young QB is DUMB
They simply should pick up a veteran as insurance, as a young qb doesn't help them NOW
then there's the one that Switzer built...

Nah, then other teams know what his true value is.Look at what Andy Reid did with AJ Feeley. He drafted the guy in the 5th round of the 2001 draft, boosted his stock over the years, and then traded him for the Dolphins 2nd rounder in the 2004 draft.Reid handles the position like a stock investment.
Perhaps they could have had DC throw in Jason Campbell in that trade.
Sad day. The house that Landry built is no more. A moment of silence for a great shrine.
I am sure the Eagles already have a 4th or 5th round pick QB in mind. Someone Andy Reid can mentor for the next 4 years.
If they need a guy to hold the clipboard for Kolb, they can just sign Jim Sorgi. He's got tons of experience doing that. No need to waste a pick,

Lots of potentially good QBs coming out of this year's draft and the Eagles have several picks. It would make sense to look for a possible QB of the future in case the Kolb experiment doesn't work.
Around 7:05 this morning local.
They won't use a first round pick on the position. They just need to have a few back ups on the roster, just like every other team.
Was it news when the Indianapolis Colts drafted Curtis Painter last year? How about when the New England Patriots used a 3rd rounder on Kevin O'Connell in 2008?

Very interesting.
In the pre-draft era, teams fought against one another for players coming out of college, The NFL’s four strongest franchises at the time – the Giants, Bears, Packers and Redskins – dominated. The other clubs were left struggling just as badly on the field as they were financially. Some were even on the verge of folding, including Bell’s Eagles.

Really fascinating bit of history there. I’ve always been a bit impressed with how balanced and effective the general idea of the draft is. At this risk of sounding like a dope, it’s really pretty elegant in its simplicity. Knowing the history behind it is really satisfying — thanks Jason.

Seventy-five years since his first grand idea, Bell’s innovations and vision still have a positive influence on today’s NFL,
As the 75th NFL Draft approaches, many NFL fans can recall how the fortunes of their favorite teams were forever altered by a draft. From the Colts’ selection of Peyton Manning with the first overall selection in 1998 to the Patriots taking a chance on Tom Brady during Round 6 in 2000, the foundation of all great teams begins on draft day.

Bell bulwarked the NFL image as commissioner from 1946-1959 and set up the league’s long-term television policies, negotiating the league’s first national TV contract. He also introduced "sudden death" overtime to football and even coined the phrase "on any given Sunday."

Now that they have hired Michael Vick, they should call themselves the Philadelphia Cowards.
I agree, Hopefully he will do the right things to correct those horrible wrongs and become a good example to children and adults of all ages by showing that cruelty to animals as well as humans is NOT the way.
In a "60 Minutes" interview set to air Sunday, Vick accepted blame for not stopping the illegal dogfighting operation he bankrolled.
Well said.
Source: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will appear in court before...
"There won't be a quarterback controversy," Reid said. "We have to make sure he gets back in football shape. He comes into a good, stable unit here. Donovan and Michael are very close."
I'm not sure if violence is underlying anymore. It overpowers and smothers every aspect of our culture,Dan Williams Cardinals jersey, from 30-second TV commercials to 3-second presidential sound bites, such as "bring it on".
Asked if he was more concerned about his playing career or the dogs he hurt, Vick replied, "Football don't even matter."
He did the crime and then did the time. What's the big deal. Move On. It's not like he drove off a bridge and drown a woman.
July 18, 1969
Players around the NFL expressed happiness that Vick was back in the league.
"I'm a believer that as long as people go through the right process, they deserve a second chance," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "He's got great people on his side; there isn't a finer person than Tony Dungy. He's proven he's on the right track."
To correct the kharma?
That should be at the top of his priority list....the kharma.
McNabb has led the Eagles to five NFC title games and one Super Bowl appearance in the last eight years, and was rewarded with a $5.3 million raise in the offseason. The Eagles tore up his old contract with two years remaining, and gave him a new deal worth $24.5 million over the next two seasons.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said he did serious "soul searching" regarding Vick. The owner said he met with Vick for hours and is convinced he can become a force in stopping animal cruelty.
"I needed to see a lot of self hatred in order to approve this," Lurie said.
But Lurie said if Vick is not proactive in working with the community and the humane society, then his signing will be a "terrible decision."
"There's no third chances and we know that. If it isn't fulfilled the way we expect it to be, then it will be the end," Lurie said.
I think Vick will work hard on his promise. He is expected to do the right thing now or else. I think he truly will strive to make himself a better person in the eyes of his family and the community.
"We don't need another quarterback, especially him," longtime fan Donald Crispin said.
Suddenly, no one seemed to care much about the preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday night. All that mattered to most fans was that the disgraced quarterback had joined their team.
The Eagles reached the NFC championship game last season under McNabb, but are still looking for their elusive first Super Bowl win.
The underlying culture which glorifies this sort of animal violence should be stopped.
"That's a lot of talent right there that was going to go to waste if nobody picked him up," Baltimore running back Willis McGahee said. "I think he'll fit in pretty good there. They're going to take care of him."
The crowd quickly caught on at Lincoln Financial Field. Fans standing on the concourse were in disbelief. One guy wondered how quickly he'd be able to buy a Vick jersey. Another asked if this was a joke.
___
"I couldn't envision Mike being here," said former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese, a teammate of Vick's in Atlanta in 2005-06. "I didn't see where he fit in. I think most people in the locker room would accept it. Donovan is very secure in his position. He wants to see Mike get another opportunity."
Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason said he hopes the Eagles use him as a quarterback instead of a gimmick player,
Who is glorifying it?
99.9% of people condemn Vick for torturing those animals...but how many really care about killing them?
Do you know how many dogs are killed every day in any given animal shelter?
How many animals are systematically killed to fill our grocery stores?
Pets are not equal to human life.
Vick could be used in a variation of the Wildcat offense that the Miami Dolphins made popular last season. He's also familiar with the West Coast offense, though Atlanta ran a different version than the one Philadelphia uses.
"He's better than 95 percent of the quarterbacks that are starting right now in this league," Mason said. "He can sit behind Donovan and learn, and hopefully he'll get an opportunity to get in there some games. But if he just takes this time to grow as a player, his future is going to be bright."

"Has paid his debt to society"---The ten-dollar theological term for this sentiment is “substitutionary atonement.” It comes from St. Paul’s interpretation of Jesus' death on the cross; “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The bumper sticker version of this belief is “Christian’s aren’t perfect, just forgiven.”
The roots of St. Paul’s assertions trace back to humanity’s early superstitious beliefs that good weather and bountiful crops are a result of sacrifices to the gods.
These expiations ranged from offering "first fruits of the harvest," to animals, to human life.
We have evolved from blood offerings that “pay a debt to God,” to serving prison time that “pays a debt to society.”
Neither of these anachronistic notions yield any practical, or transformative results.

Andy Reid: Michael Vick likely to make Philadelphia Eagles debut vs. Jacksonvill...
Vick said he feels "some tremendous hurt behind what happened."
Want to buy a customized Michael Vick Eagles jersey for your dog? NFL says okay ...
I think Vick will fit in nicely in Philadelphia's system - he is going to be a dangerous offensive weapon. I just hope the Philly fans accept him as one of their own! Here is a cool article about the fans' reactions to Vick's arrival: https://www.mindreign.com/en/mindshare/Sports/Will-Michael-Vick-Divide-Philadelphia-3f/sl40763392bp470cpp10pn1wearing your antonio cromartie jersey while lounging around the house can increase the risk of spilling beer or food on them, ripping and tearing the elbows and patchwork.l
"This is America. We do make mistakes," Reid said. "This situation is a chance to prove he's doing the right things. He's been proactive speaking across the country."
AP Sports Writers Hank Kurz Jr, in Richmond, Va., Jon Krawczynski in Minneapolis and Dave Ginsburg in Baltimore and AP writer Dan Robrish in Philadelphia contributed to this report.
He reads this news and so does everyone else.Reporters even talk about the comments made on this site. Thanks for your concern.
Oooooooooh you're sooooo deep.
One of the things Michael Vick can do is to become involved with at-risk rural and urban youth, He can tell them about the realities of being incarcerated. That would be a much better use of his time than attempting to interact with the very same people who unsuccessfully attempted to destroy him.
Even though five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb is the man on the Philadelphia Eagles,Jermaine Gresham Bengals jersey, the team gave Vick a one-year deal with an option for a second year.
What's at issue (for me, at least) isn't the dogs. I've never been a dog person, and try to avoid them. The problem is that Vick demonstrated a history of sociopathic, destructive behavior, torturing the helpless. While I fully believe in second chances, this isn't a case where he made a dumb decision that resulted in tragedy. (You don't get drunk, black out, and come to with a dogfighting ring in your basement.) He has a very serious problem, one that should preclude him from being a role model ever again.
If he's honestly atoned for his actions and been rehabilitated, great. He went to a good school and should have no trouble getting another job. Putting him back into a position where he is a hero to countless kids (not to mention will make more in a day than most of them can hope for in their lifetimes) is unacceptable. If he really wants to make a difference, he should speak to kids, telling them, "I had it all. But I blew it."
Allowing him to play again, even if he's "paid his debt to society" and been reformed, teaches kids that torture is punished with a mere slap on the wrist, and then everything's hunky-dory again. I for one will stop supporting any sponsor of the Philadelphia Eagles. I doubt it will make a difference, but I can no more condone this behavior than I can condone Wal-Mart's unethical employment practices.
Reid made sure he spoke with McNabb before signing Vick.
We can only judge him by the laws of punishment we as a society setup. The rest is all your preferences, which should be applied to changing the laws not punishing Vick once more.
PHILADELPHIA — By halftime, the Linc was buzzing: Michael Vick was an Eagle.
I don't think Vick reads HuffPo.
ROB MAADDI | 08/13/09 11:55 PM |
He said he should have taken "the initiative to stop it all ... I didn't."
I respect the law, and that, according to the laws under which he was tried and convicted, he has served his time and is legally a free man. I may disagree with the law here, but I respect it. However, are you saying this means that I should accept him back with open arms despite any personal preferences or beliefs I may have? I cannot do that. Again, this is not a single mistake he made, this is a pattern of destructive behavior dating back, at the very least (according to public record), six years, and likely far longer than that. The man should be free to live his life, but it should never again involve being portrayed as a hero to children.
The NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles are both private entities and free to either refuse or reinstate Vick as they see fit. There is no law governing this issue. I, though, am also free to stop giving money to the companies who see no ethical problem with someone who is capable of such behavior over a long term again being a role model. I'm not punishing Vick a second time. If anyone is being punished, it's the corporate sponsors of the NFL and the Eagles. I'm not big on organized boycotts, but I don't like giving my money to companies that I know will use it in ways I don't approve of.

"You have to wonder what sort of message this sends to young fans who care about animals and don't want them to be harmed."
The animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wasted no time reminding people exactly what Vick had done,
"PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Eagles decided to sign a guy who hung dogs from trees. He electrocuted them with jumper cables and held them under water," PETA spokesman Dan Shannon told The Associated Press.
When news of Vick's signing circulated in the press box during the first half of the Eagles' preseason opener against the Patriots, even the team's public relations staff seemed surprised.
I have a question for the people who are protesting Michael Vick.
Who is the last person you tried to deny employment upon them being released from the penal system before Vick?
Commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team, practice and play in the last two preseason games. Once the season begins, Vick can participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.
So - I'm 20 mins. outside Philadelphia. Area football team -The Eagles. Mike Vick is now with them. After doing monstrous things to dogs & who knows what other animals, he says he's re-habilitated. Well, let's see...will he give back in good deeds to dogs and other animals to correct the karma from all the negative ones? Time will tell. So for the moment, I'll give him the benefit & hope he'll do the right thing. Or else, shame to Mike Vick & Phila.!
Philadelphia is a surprise landing point for Vick. It was among 26 clubs that said there was no interest in him, but that may have changed when backup Kevin Kolb strained a knee ligament earlier this week. Kolb's injury isn't serious and he's expected to return next week. The Eagles also have veteran A.J. Feeley.
Anyone can write an apology. Few of us, thank goodness, could harm a helpless animal, Those who can are missing something significant in their character and are to be feared. So forgive him if you like, but
don't for a minute think a repentant speech means a change of character.
OJ Simpson.
Why is Michael Vick so evil to so many here?
"He killed for profit." Farmers kill for profit all the time.
"He enjoyed it." Hunters kill for sport all the time.
How do the people who are calling for Vick's spine to be broken reconcile their appalling hypocrisy?
I have never killed an animal but when so many are killed everyday for any variety of reasons...
There is so much human suffering in this world that...if Michael Vick is your priority...then you are showing your cards...animal life must mean more to you than human life.
"He's an unbelievable athlete, both running the ball and throwing it," Reid said. "I'll think of something for him."
Vick can become a successful NFL player and with all the attention and earnings can setup a worldwide foundation against cruelty to animals, work around the politics of PETA and it's selective attention-getting harassment. And who knows Vick might be even show PETA what ethical treatment means.
Read the Indictment.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/210944/Michael-Vick-Dogfighting-Indictment
He ran this racket in a very H@tlerian manner. He would train and test these dogs. The ones that were superior and "worthy", received medical treatment so that they could be a contender: While the dogs that weren't up to par were destroyed.
"It doesn't make any sense," said Michelle Harlan, a mother attending her first NFL game with a young son.
Mike, please don,t pay any attention to negative talk and remember satan has his people too.If they,Demaryius Thomas Broncos jersey,re not good words its not from the LORD, so pay them no mind if they don,t want you there they should move. This place is the LORD,S,you hurt HIM and you make things right with HIM.Those dogs and everything is HIS.You,re suppose to love people, animals, plants and everything now this is your chance to show how much love you have.I believe the LORD has change you.I,ll be praying for you and you do the same thats the way to fight the devil through prayer and he,ll be sending an army after you, because you must prove your,re good and mean what you say. Now,I want to see you throw that ball and run it too just like before.Hey, all of my men are excited and so am I.We love you.
Judging by the events of his life the last two years..yeah, karma.
The 29-year-old Vick, once the NFL's highest-paid player, has been out of action since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons star was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting ring, and served 18 of a 23-month sentence in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
"I pretty much lobbied to get him here," McNabb said. "I believe in second chances and what better place to get a second chance than here with this group of guys. ... He's no threat to me, not for Kolb. We had the opportunity to add another weapon to our offense."
Since Reid became the head coach in 1999, the Eagles have avoided players with character issues. The lone exception came in 2004 when Philadelphia acquired wide receiver Terrell Owens. That move paid off when Owens helped lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl in his first season. But T.O. quickly wore out his welcome, criticizing management over a contract dispute and feuding with McNabb. He was released midway through the 2005 season.
Reid believes most Eagles fans will accept Vick.
relate article:I feel awful for him. He really has more talent than he's being given the opportunity to show. What wasted potential.
This makes Raiders contenders in the weakest division in the NFL.
Raiders got a QB who will help them win they have a decent defense and now they got Campbell for really nothing. A steal for a QB who doesnt throw more picks than TDs and passes for over 3000 yards with no line. He is better than any of the Qbs on the Raiders roster. A top 15 NFL QB for a 4th pick in 2012 thats a steal.
Pro Bowl Tickets
And before that, they were the winningest,
Replace Campbell with JaMarcus ... WOW what's the difference???

Did we or did we not KICK THE EAGLES a$% at the Coliseum last year?
Well, I'm happy for Jason to be getting a fresh start. I'm just sorry for him that it's a franchise in total disarray.
JaMarcus -- gain some more weight and join the O-Line! Jason Campbell welcome to the RAIDER NATION!
To ALL Raider Haters : Shut up and go climb back on your mom. You may have to wait in line though.
Your attitude contributes to it. No one makes fun of the Chiefs. They are also a terrible team. The difference is, THEIR FANS KNOW IT AND DON'T RUN THEIR MOUTHS LIKE THEY ARE ACTUALLY RELEVANT.

Now he can hold the ball too long for the Raiders.

What a winning qb roster they have in oaktown...
As a lions fan (at least until this draft) I must say that your Crazy Ass owner had a FANTASTIC draft compared to our crazy retard of an owner!
maybe Faneca(cut by jets) and Jamarcus can trade places?
Aaaahahahhaahaha.
You forgot that when you talk about Jason Campbell that it is mandatory that you mention that he's had 2 billion different offensive coordinators.
Great draft for the Raiders, great trades
can we say oakland is back all you haters better watch it now we have a qb cant wont leave our defence out to dry and because of campbell the offence can now complete 3rd and longs and campbell also makes our defence a top ten defence and can raider nation all at once say bye bye russell
yep, good bye JaMarcus Russell - you were a huge mistake and will always be a huge mistake. go back to college if they take you and learn how to work in burger king, if they will take you too
It is always better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not, when in doubt knock them out.
If Cleveland is Hell than OAK is purgatory.
I have to laugh at after 7 years of being down just how many haters there still are out there regarding the Raiders. To see the number of other Fans that rush to comment on everything and anything Raider is a badge of honor.
Must say, as a Skins fan and Campbell fan, it does make me happy that Raiders fans are pumped they're getting him.
Totally agree...the only worse move would have been to the other QB meat grinder which is Cleveland.
AGREED...First this guy holds out for MORE money becasue he thinks he is better than anyone then when he does manage to throw the ball he SUCKED ASS.
real weak.
Good lord the Raiders are collecting some really really awful QBs.
Fargas should have stayed though. I hope McFadden does get his head out of his ass though.
I wish him well because he carried himself with class throughout his Skins career, but I am not sorry to see him go. And Raider Nation don't expect Campbell to visit the "BlackHole" anytime soon. He'll be scared shitless of it.
Poor Jason Campbell. The guy had a future in the league. Now he will only rot in Oakland."
As a Skins fan all I have to say is Campbell is a great guy and that I wish him the best.
thank you Amy Trask
Yeah the Raiders really layed the wood on the Skins that day. No argument from me. Ass kickings happen in the SuperBowl. What was the final scores of Super Bowl II and Super Bowl XXXVII again? At least the Skins only got blown out in one Super Bowl.
bad trade for the skins, good for the raiders
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS PLAYOFFS!!!!!!
Right big bald.., because the Redskins had a lot going for them last year and Campbell's future in DC was looking good this year too....
The raiders offense can actually move when a real qb is in there. I saw it with my own eyes... I'll be interested to see how he does.
It's funny how Raiders' fans think this dude will take them to the playoffs. Campbell is below average at best and is in a WORSE situation than he was in Washington. Truth hurts. His career is pretty much over.
RAAAAAAIDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS!!!!!!! Raiders are back! Fuk all the Haters!
If you're NOT winning the SB your a wannabe.
now all we need is to sign fanaca who just got released today
He's a good QB who never had time to learn a system longer than 2 years and his numbers went up each year. 6 different systems since college. All you raider haters can suck it now because this draft proves that Lord Davis is alive and knows what he is doing in his white jumpsuit. It looks like they are trying to run hard get play action going and play good D, and that is how you win in the NFL. I cant wait!
Gradowski should stay behind Campbell now. I think with that RAIDER NATION can reclaim dominance once again.
Can you say PLAYOFFS!!!!
He spends the first part of his career here taking the blame for the obvious deficiencies of other parts of the team, dealing with the revolving door of coaches and coordinators...and in SPITE of that, managed to progress every year in stats and finish in the top half of QB's in the leage.
for a 4th Round pick in 2012?!? WTF??
2012? That's only a few months before the apocalypse. We won't even get a full season out of that 4th round pick.
Easily 8-8 this year, with even better things ahead.
We'll never know if he was actually a decent QB as he is now in the NFL graveyard.
Good luck Raider Nation!
Its been an exciting weekend to be a RAIDER fan! And this just tops it off! Whoever is running the draft this year deserves a BIG RAISE! FINALLY we got our shit together in OAKLAND! Now go get
Alan Faneca Big Al!!!!!!!

It has to be the small child complex. You know where they grow up being thumped so they have a defect branded on the brain until death. Well get ready folks, the Raiders may have been down for a few years but they will soon be doing what has so many of you clowns still having Raiders on the brain.

Great draft, Great acquistions......
Steal for the Raiders, this team is not that bad.
BigBald....
#2.Jason Campbell will be throwing to who D.H.B dude couldn't catch a cold, but don't worry Jacoby Ford will catch those passes right give me a break.
no retard. It speaks volumes about how GREAT the franchise is.. so your comeback is "theyre shitty because theyre ONLY the 4th winningest team and used to be the winnigest" your team wasnt on that perch.. your team didnt fall from #1, because.. well.. it has no shot of ever being there.
What's the matter, they couldn't pry Byron Leftwich from the Steelers?
I wanted the Raiders to pick Mccoy and I was disappointed that I didn't, but hearing the news that they landed Jason Campbell -- I think it's awesome. Than again, anybody is better than Russell.
I love all the hate from the loser team supporters.......Eagles fans calling the Raiders a graveyard? Do us a favor, post once you're franchise wins one superbowl. How many seasons in pro football for filly? 105? The ultimate losers.......go beat up Santa Claus or a mafia chieftan
I hope he gets the tools he needs and he's able to help turn things around for you guys. The fact that he is wanted is already an immediate improvement.
Poor Jason Campbell. The guy had a future in the league. Now he will only rot in Oakland.
Solid move by Oakland. Glad they aren't clinging to Russell, who is going to be out of the league shortly.
Mr. Smith,
#1.Jason Campbell will be learning yet another new offensive scheme didn't work well for him before.
best draft in years!

Wow!!! way to jump the gun there buddy, now lets add some reality to your dreams.
as a Raider fan from their conception there is only 1 thing that they need to change and that is their owner, Al Davis - the Raiders will be back and just as good as they were way back when, you can guarantee that. JaMarcus Russell was a brain fart from big Al - a very expensive one

He should have a pro bowl year in Oakland so not to worry. I pro bowl of soup...
Just one more example of how being a Washington Redskin can be a career-killer.
I live in DC and I'm a Raiders fan, Campbell is a pretty good QB who had a crappy line and 3-4 different systems to learn. By all accounts he is a good guy and hard worker. Campbell starts and , Bruce,Rolando McClain Raiders jersey, and Frye are backups. Can I get a na na na na, na na na na, say hey hey good bye Jamarcus
Cut JaBustus!
Russell must be getting cut soon.
Say goodbye, Jamarcus.....
Even if this doesn't work out, they gave up a 2012 4th rounder, not a big deal.
This is EXACTLY why everyone makes fun of your team. There is no jealousy. Your team is completely retarded, and you fans are too retarded to see that that is why everyone LAUGHS AT YOU AND YOUR TEAM.
And Jason Campbell is head and shoulders better than JaFarkus.
You know,Tim Tebow Broncos jersey, the lame negative comments from the peanut gallery are getting really old. Some of you chumps need to get a new hobby.
Either way, they'll be lucky to finish 3rd in the AFC West.
5 QB's?? Is John Gruden coaching the Raiders again?
i love that the 4-12 redskin fans are calling oakland the nfl graveyard... believe the nations capital drafted before oakland did.
We'll never know if he was actually a decent QB as he is now in the NFL graveyard.
this deal was a win for oakland and for donovan. when donovan goes down with an injury in week 2 - you'll realize just how bad this decision was.
As a Skins fan who has seen every game Campbell has played in the Pro's I find it funny how some are saying once again it was everyone's fault except Campbell's that he hasn't had more success in the Pro's and that the Skins gave up on him. Oh Campbell had a bad O'line, or Campbell didn't have good WR's, or Campbell didn't have the same coach.
While my opinion counts for zero, I would grade your off-season and draft an A++++
Their top 3 draft picks are all high-character work-ethic guys, team leader types. The locker room environment is going to be greatly enhanced.
best draft in years!
Check the police blotter unfortunately, austin collie colts jerseys are big business. it is estimated that tens of millions of dollars are lost each year to counterfeiters.raquo;
deadskin fans talking snack about the Raiders? Remember this? 38-9? Wait until you've had Shanahan for three seasons........hahahahaha......
I personally think Campbell will be a solid QB for you guys!
Along with Seymour and Asomugha and some very good young safeties (including my sleeper - Mike Mitchell), the defense will be substantially upgraded this year.
Also would like to add...all those of you who talk crap about the Raiders....YOU SUCK!!!
Jason, dez bryant cowboys jersey, some of us out here are big fans of you personally and so I wish you all the best in Oakland and hope that you have the chance to become a Pro Bowl QB. I think Shanny should have worked with you to develop that instead of running outside the organization. So I'll add this one on to the "mistake list" that the club has made so far under Shanahan/Allen. Good luck.
Great pick up the raiders there's alot to be said for accuracy and with Campbell completing at least %60 of his passes they should be much improved.Time to scrap the Jamarcus project for now put him on the bench and he can back up Campbell for 3-4 years he's only 25.He has all the physical tools so if he can ever get it through his head that he has to work hard he might be alright. The other problem for the raiders is the run game they have to give one of there backs at least 20-25 carries a game Bush and Mcfadden are both talented but its hard for either of them to establish any rythm especially D Mcfadden with 8 carries per game.Get it takin care of so that you will cease to continue being the laughing stock of the league!
Give it 2 or 3 more years and they may be down to 10th,
Your attitude contributes to it, No one makes fun of the Chiefs. They are also a terrible team. The difference is, THEIR FANS KNOW IT AND DON'T RUN THEIR MOUTHS LIKE THEY ARE ACTUALLY RELEVANT.
Jason has FINALLY made it out of purgatory.... unfortunately for him, he hasn't ascended into football heaven.
Hey Russell. GTFO
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Sucker. He improved despite having EIGHT offensive coordinators.
Damn just when he thinks he's going to be on a team that turned it around this offseason he gies back to a sorry team sorry owner and the worst franchise in the NFL.. Sad sad day for Campbell..
Bye bye JaMarcus Russell, and make room for Jason Campbell. Looks like Raider Nation is looking up. It's about time we had a quarterback that we can really count on when the chips are down. We are going to wins games this year!

I may be crazy, but I say get TO so Campbell has a true #1 receiver. It's been said, but pick up Fanaca now.
I hope that Jason invests his paycheques wisely becasue he will be out of football in three years with this move.
@Slick1960
Keep talking trash on the NFC East homey. We lost one super bowl to you guys, but we still have three Lombardi's out at Redskins park. How many does the black hole haveif you are a super fan of one particular football team,i bet you will go to see their games on the scene Easy on the name calling. You all got a solid person in JC, but a below average QB. Joe Gibbs lost his mind when he traded up for him instead of getting a multitude of much better players in that draft. As a Skins fan and going to every home game watching Campbell go through his progression was painful and you will see it in Oakland. When you are getting hit all the time you think you would change your plays to 3 step drops because you are getting killed back there but JC doesn't have the smarts to be able to think quickly. Like I said great person, Below average QB.
Football Tickets
YA RIGHT...its going to be the raiders and the seahawks in the superbowl this year guise
They did it a couple of years back with Gerard Warren.
Which speaks volumes about what spectacular failures the shitty team has been.
Al Davis came out on top of this one......did I hear this correctly on the draft....a 4th round pick in 2012 for Campbell?
Mike Shanahan dealing with Al Davis?
Mike Shanahan dealing with Al Davis?
Thatz why I luv being a Raider Fan, becuz there are so many haterz out there! lol! Getting Jason Campbell waz one of the best moves! I think we did great in the draft! Can't wait 4 the season to start! @tfbuttfutter, I mean buckfutter : Real men wear black! I am sure you don't have that in your wardrobe! Love All You Raider Fanz the only True Fanz in the league! Commitment 2 Excellence!
Dan Marino spent his entire career in Miami and never had much to get him back to the Super Bowl and he was a Hall of Famer. Good QB's in the NFL make due with what they are dealt and find a way to succeed. Campbell had 5 years to take the next step to pro-bowl level QB. The only thing he did was convince some fans out there to make excuses for him.
And just a little heads up, Houston drafted in round two was not drafted as a DT for the Raiders. He was drafted to play Left End,Derrick Morgan Titans jersey, the Raiders have a suprise coming for the DT that they need and Cable has stated that Raider Fans will love it.
People who dump on the raiders dont know shit.. despite having 7 losing seasons the Raiders are the FOURTH WINNINGEST franchise in NFL history.. so unless youre a fan of the Cowboys, Dolphins, or Bears.. STFU because your team is still below them.
And now he is getting shipped to Oakland?
Poor bastard. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
They beat Pittsburgh, Cincy and Philly last year, have upgraded the defense substantially with McClain, Houston and Wimbley and have helped themselves considerably on the o-line.
Dude, cuz someone in the Raiders office broke a mirror like 7 years ago and that bad luck is about to change. We can at least remember when we were dominant.
Though it's an immediate upgrade for your hapless raiders,Maurkice Pouncey Steelers jersey, he's replacing Russell, so that's not saying much.

A fourth round pick in 2012? Cripes. Raiders got a deal. Campbell will start and do a solid job on a bad team. Anybody ready for 7-9? That's the threshhold for a bad team with a competent coach or QB. Martz got a 7-9 with the Lions a couple of years back. I think the Raiders might go 9-7.
@Slick1960
congrats to JC and Raiders.,. But raider fans, you guys have more need than just a less than average QB.
LOL i love all you haters, especially donkey fans, LOLLLL!! How bout it raider fans, do any of you remember a draft like this?? The guys on NFL network even acknowledged that this was a GREAT draft by the raiders, and Campbell in Oaktown is the icing on the cake. I live in the northeast and have seen redskins games, campbell NEVER had consistency, if he finally gets it in Oakland, and thats a HUGE finally, raiders are in good shape. Im excited. When JRuss says no to paycut and finally gets cut, thats the cherry!!

Don't get too excited raider fans, we don't want your tears of joy ruining your mascara.
You realize he played behind a crap offensive line. Couldnt be any worse than Russell. Watch McNabb absolutely face plant in DC

2012? That's only a few months before the apocalypse. We won't even get a full season out of that 4th round pick.
This is a good move for both Campbell and the Raiders. There is a light at the end of this long dark tunnel for Oakland, so it's about time you guys find a new team to bag on for a change. Despite seven years of gloom, Raider fans can still hold their head up higher than most, so just STFU already.

Getting Jason Campbell for a fourth rounder in 2011 is a pretty good deal to get a decent young QB who steps in as an immediate upgrade over anybody there in Oakland. Goodbye JaMarcus Russell!
I'm not a big Raiders fan but many of you are talking about how bad this team is. Simply not true.
Shanahan's son had better make an excellent backup QB out of Brennan (or one of the over-the-hill acquisitions), as Donovan might not last the season. Any contenders really need TWO better-than average QBs if they intend to reach the playoffs.
Just what the Ders need, another dumb QB.
I am glad for him. I hope he does very well,
Campbell is a great guy, but an average QB. Great arm, but doesn't have the accuracy or the balls to use it. You Raiders fans will find that out soon enough. He's too cautious, not enough gunslinger in him, doesn't strike me as a Raiders type of QB. Jason Campbell is no Ken Stabler.

Guess what? He is right! I would personally like to thank Asante Samuel for having the courage to say what the entire city of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Eagles’ fans have been saying for the last two years. The Philadelphia Eagles’ offseason has been a complete and utter mess this year. Between the instability at quarterback and their inability to fill holes in free agency, this team has taken three steps backwards. Considering the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles’ last game was a 34-14 loss, that says a lot about the future of the team.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated
Thank you very much DW for the comment. I think it is funny because the critics of this blog haven’t pointed to anything specifically that I said which was wrong. It is much easier to insult me than to argue my points. I have been bleeding green for over 20 years and I am just tired of Reid and the Reid regime. Sheldon Brown was on WIP this morning and talked about the lack of chemistry in the locker room with Brian Dawkins leaving and while not mentioning names, made a remark about Asante Samuel. That is all on Reid. But hey, why argue facts?
“The way we dominated them, obviously [Donovan] McNabb didn’t play his best, but they were very predictable,” Brooking said. “We knew exactly what was coming on every play. A lot of that didn’t have to do with Donovan McNabb.” We’ll see now won’t we?
“I never want to be the type of organization or owner that doesn’t keep reloading or going for it,” he said. “You’re always going to have a chance to make mistakes by taking risks. Keep going for it.”
I like what the guy ” Youre a joke says: ” is saying!
Assante Samuel wants to play flag football, Reid wants a tough defense. The Pats let Samuel walk for much of the same,
Finally, Philadelphia Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie said the following ironically at the press conference to announce the Eagles signing Asante Samuel two years ago.
Do me a favor and stop reading my blog. I don’t have time to waste on your comments when you ignore the facts over your fandom.
Thank you! Keep in mind Brooking is not the first opposing player to call the Eagles offense predictable. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out Andy Reid’s playbook. This is a huge issue for the team and something that Andy Reid is 100% responsible for. Again, this isn’t just a one-game situation. In the 2008-09 season, you could hear opposing players screaming, “screen” right before the Eagles called a screen pass. How Andy Reid earned a new contract in the offseason may be the biggest mystery since Jimmy Hoffa.
I think that’s the big disconnect. It is easy for someone on the outside to judge us as Eagles fans, but they can’t grasp the entirety of the last several years unless they are in our shoes. It is funny because as I have written in the past, coaches who have won Super Bowls have gotten run out of town or fired and yet the though of getting rid Reid gets everyone outside of Philly in an uproar.
If this is going for it, the Philadelphia Eagles are in more trouble than I thought.
As for the releases–they all make sense. It was clear that Westbrook was questioning his commitment to pro football after the concussions, and nobody has picked him up yet–perhaps lending some credence to that opinion. Dawkins was missed on the field last year only when injuries thinned the lineup, and while he was definitely missed in the locker room, his skills are declining and he did nothing special last season for a very average Denver team. Sheldon Brown wanted out last year and the Eagles maximized his tradability by making him play to earn a trade–if he had malingered, he wouldn’t have been able to go ANYWHERE,Jason Pierre-Paul Giants jersey, so they used him for what he was worth. Vick will end up being a good pick up, and the Eagles got him for nothing. Andrews has underperformed and has had too much drama around him for too long. Peters was just as adequate as Thomas and Runyan–both of whom are not impact NFL players anymore (Runyan is going into politics), so they didn’t really lose anything there. As for Samuel–Reid is right…he DOES need to play better. Asante did not live up to the hype. I think he was good sign at the time, perhaps a bit overpaid, but he does need to play better. The Eagles desire is to use the commodity of their players to help them perpetuate the ability to be competitive in a fluctuating league. Even without McNabb, the reality is that the Eagles should still be a playoff contender which is no worse than what they were last year–and now they are the youngest team in the league, have 5 draft picks in the top 87, and all the cash they need to sign each one of them, rather than having it all tied up in a couple of aging, underperforming veterans, that we just want here because we like them. Like I said before–you have to make BUSINESS decisions (and the NFL is a BUSINESS) with your head and not your heart. Any team can get great for a year–the Eagles have proven over time that they can stay competitive and make the proper decisions year after year. Just cause they aren’t popular with the fans, doesn’t mean they are wrong.
EG, I think turmoil is a bit of a heavy word. So far, I don’t have too many problems with what the Eagles have done, because when you look at them a little harder, they make sense–long term business sense. McNabb is about to turn 34 and is in the final year of his contract. He has missed the end of three out of the last 5 season due to injury, and has not been able to lead the team to a Superbowl win. The Eagles clearly had to make a decision at this juncture in his career as to whether they wanted to a) commit to him and try to re-sign him, b) if not, then let him walk with no compensation at the end of the season, or c) try to maximize his value in acquiring draft picks by trading him. Now–if the Eagles wanted to resign him to an extension, there is no doubt McNabb would have asked for a minimum of 3 years, and would have expected to be paid as a top three NFL quarterback–meaning he would have probably wanted somewhere in the vicinity of $15-20 million a year with at least 50% guaranteed. That’s a pretty big chunk of change for an aging quarterback who hasn’t been able to get it done, and takes away from the money available to sign the large # of draft picks the Eagles have acquired. If the Eagles were either unable or unwilling to re-sign him, then he either gets franchised (costing them more), or he walks for nothing. That makes absolutely no sense. So, it was left to have to trade him for what the Eagles could get, Definitely not popular, but necessary. Draft picks make more sense, so the Eagles did what they “had to do.” Now, as far as trading him the Skins–I don’t like it, but it is coming out now through the media that McNabb had certain places he was “willing to go”,Ndamukong Suh Lions jersey;. If the Eagles had made the decision to trade him, then they had to trade him for the best deal they could get–regardless of division. McNabb was going to veto Oakland and Buffalo, and St Louis is hot for Bradford, so the Eagles had to take the best they could get–again, not popular but necessary. You can’t make business decision with your heart–it has to be with your head.

“The whole team needs to improve from the front office, to the head coach to the players,” Samuel told Derrick Gunn of CSNPhilly.com.
For all the gloom and doom out there regarding andy reid we’ve got to keep in mind that he has always had one of the most potent offenses in the league. Not only that, he has taken his team to countless playoff appearances, NFC championship games and a superbowl. Andy has flaws, but he is far from a loser.
Speaking of that loss, Keith Brooking of the Dallas Cowboys recently made some very interesting remarks about that game. One of the biggest complaints I have had with the Philadelphia Eagles offense over the last few years is the predictability. Dallas Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking agrees. Keith Brooking said the following in a recent interview about the Eagles offense.
Why would you ever tell someone to ….
The bottom line here is that for Andy Reid to criticize Asante Samuel publicly, he is criticizing himself. Reid is the one who signed Asante Samuel to a six-year, $56 million deal. Reid did this at a time when he had both Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard under contract,Jahvid Best Lions jersey, Corner was not an immediate need for the Philadelphia Eagles. If Andy Reid has a problem with a player not performing up to his contract, Andy Reid should question Andy Reid for making that deal with a player who was known to have issues like this in New England.

In my 20+ years as a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I can’t recall an offseason with this much turmoil since the birds let Reggie White leave to the Green Bay Packers. I don’t know if it is Andy Reid’s new job security or fear of the unknown, but Andy Reid’s house of cards is falling apart. In the midst of an offseason that has consisted of trading the franchise quarterback within the division, releasing Brian Westbrook, trading away their Pro Bowl cornerback, releasing his Pro Bowl offensive lineman, and oh yeah his inability to trade Michael Vick, Andy Reid now finds himself at odds with his highest paid defensive player, Asante Samuel.
“I think Asante knows he needs to have a better year than what he had, even though he was a Pro Bowler,” “As good a player as he is, he can be even better,” Reid said. “And I think that’s the way he’s handling the offseason.” Andy Reid said an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer.

No problem. When I read your blog, I e-mailed to it a buddy with a note that said “No, I did not write this under a pseudonym.” That’s because you made a lot of the same points I’ve been making to him and fellow Eagles fans over the past couple of years. I feel your frustration. I’ve been bleeding Eagles green for more than 35 years. I believe Reid is the best coach we’ve ever had, but like you I think it’s time for a change there, too. But it does scare me to think that ultimately Banner and Roseman will be making that decision. I don’t have a lot of faith in those two.

Vick being Vick, he could easily compound the problem. We know he sees himself as a starting quarterback, and for as much as people keep saying the last few years have been "humbling" for him, we sure didn't see any evidence of that this offseason, when he was out on the airwaves trying to get himself traded to half the teams in the league.

Oh well.
As of yesterday, Sav Rocca and Max Jean-Gilles were the only two Eagles' RFAs to not have signed their tenders. MJG just signed his, according to Eagletarian.
Anyway, I'd been doing it to keep from being bored, but then coach found out about it and loved it. He'd ask me for real-time pitch counts and the hitting tendencies we'd seen in the other team's earlier at-bats.
Still Waiting On That Corner. Still.
This makes the risk of top picks far greater than the chart above makes it seem to be. As I will point out, later, Massey and Thaler fail to account for this on either side of the equation, but this guaranteed money increases the risk of the deal and doesn’t increase the payoff. That is the problem with the contract rules for draft picks.

Last week, Brian at Advanced NFL Stats put up a solid rebuttal to that point. Look at the graph again: the surplus value is positive at all points. All draft picks are getting undercompensated, he observed:

The down side of making that team is that I rarely played. I shared my position with a junior who -- while he didn't actually seem to like baseball all that much -- also happened to be our school's starting power forward and, um, quarterback of the football team. To say there was a wide gulf in our athletic -- if not baseball -- abilities would be to so dramatically understate the actual separation as to render the words themselves entirely meaningless.
This was how Derek ended up being all-time scorekeeper.
"This draft never would have happened if Jim Johnson were still alive," according to Sam, who offers a provocative expansion on the theory of McDermott as a coverage coach. Gabe and I also do our things in this post-draft roundtable that is appropriately sized for a nice Sunday afternoon read.

I was messing around on EaglesCap and just at a quick glance, it doesn't look to me like there's some massive outflow scheduled to happen in the next year or two. They've definitely been a little more guarded with the young player extensions the last couple years, but it seems like that's because of a) CBA uncertainty and b) there aren't, uh, that many good players to extend.
There's more. Read it all.

Are the Eagles ripping off everything down to the studs and starting fresh? No, of course not. But when you ditch a guy like Darren Howard, you make it pretty clear that your top priority is not squeezing every single possible mini-edge out of your roster in 2010. You are, in essence, rebuilding, you're just doing it in a more targeted fashion, like finally ripping off that section of roof you've patched 10 times and laying down some new shingles.
Every move they're making now is about giving Kevin Kolb the best possible chance to win one or more Super Bowls over the next five to eight years. The 2010 season is an important stepping stone, but it's all about trying to create the post-2010 dynasty.
I asked Sam this morning if stories like this one had the same effect on him that last year's pieces on McDermott did on me. "Totally."
Jordan Norwood / Riley Cooper (truly David and Goliath) Hall / Clayton / Chaney (all LBs) Offensive line (basically, all of them after the top five) Buckley / Scott Rhymes with "shmornerback"
Expected performance is highest for the best players in the draft, but at the top of the draft, the players are expensive, so the “surplus” value net of compensation is concave. How do they come up with this? To determine the value of a player, they look at player performance for guys on their second contracts in the league, and then look at what those guys’ salary cap hits are, and finally associate performance levels with those salary hits. So a pro bowl performance is worth $X, starting worth $Y, backing up worth $Z, etc. They then subtract what the draft pick’s actual salary cap hit was from that benchmark value, and the net is the surplus that the draft pick generated.

Which is sort of odd, because the Eagles usually announce stuff like this in a bundled fashion. But nope, just Max.
Take a look at some college highlights of NC State RT Jerrail McCuller. His technique looks all kinds of wonky, but check out how many plays end with his guy on his back (even factoring in the repeats):
Now that I'm thinking about the Massey-Thaler paper again, I'm wondering if the overvaluation of top picks might be justified, at least to some degree. Massey and Thaler seem to assume a linear "bricklayer" model of football player production. By that I mean that a bricklayer who lays 10 bricks per minute and makes $10 per hour can be replaced by two slower bricklayers who each lay 5 bricks per minute and make $5 per hour. In this model, absolute performance is what's important.

And that's why Vick is a problem.
There are those who choose to point to the counter-revolutionary posturing of defectors who make outrageous statements regarding the Central Party. Having chosen to align with the profligate and morally bankrupt enemies of the People in Washington DC, this disgraced comrade attempts to stir up dissent amongst those he has abandoned. Yet didn't this very same comrade recently beg the Central Party to allow him to remain amongst the People and continue to labor in our fields and factories for the remainder of his useful life? No, these comments are demagoguery of the cheapest flavor, further fouled by the bitterness this comrade feels for having been sent to gulag (a fate he most certainly could have avoided with greater dedication to the will of the People, as well as less superfluous smiling during his labors!).

April 16, 2010 There Is No Rebuilding, Only Reeducation Posted by BountyBowl
Wait, If You Live In New York, Why Didn't You Go To The Draft? Don't think I wasn't tempted, especially because I work essentially across the street. On Friday night, I actually started to walk up to security before reason got the better of me. Given that I'd been away from home for most of the past three weeks (in case you're interested, the volcano had me stuck overseas, which led to the absurd decision to drive to Madrid from London, and so on and so forth -- it was fairly elaborate), I really couldn't justify sitting in a theater for an event that is consumed far more effectively with a laptop. Maybe next year (as my pregnant wife shakes her head vigorously across the room).
***
This is why the rebuilding / not-rebuilding discussion is sort of pointless. It's all about definitions,
But one great QB cannot be replaced on the field by two average QBs, and a team can only field 11 players on the field at a time. It can only carry 53 players on its roster. The bricklayer model does not apply. Further, relative ability is what matters in football, not absolute ability.

Comrades,
Now, the interesting thing is that the guy -- who was a good dude, too -- didn't really, um, play all that well that year. (No offense, Spragoo.) Certainly not all that much better than I did in my limited action. But after a good start, the team stumbled a bit, the season seemed to be going nowhere, and there was no chance in the world the coach was going to waste at-bats on a no-ceiling senior when he had his eyes firmly fixed on the long term.
What I find interesting about that statement today is the implicit assumption we now realize isn't correct. The idea that the Eagles want to preserve every last advantage in 2010 to make a run went out the window the day they cut all those veterans on the wrong side of the cost/performance line.

I don't think Parker will be cut, but I could see them potentially moving him in a trade, just to send him some place where he might have an easier path to the field, depending upon how Tapp and Graham look early on. The next three guys are all coming off injuries, so no gimmes there. Demps is at a make-or-break time in his career.
Yikes. That's a lot of floral print fabric right there. At what point do the Birds just start marketing items like this as part of the Andy Reid Signature Collection (tm). Even Gruden was giving him a hard time for it during an ESPN interview Friday night -- that would be the same interview that featured the industrial-throated heckler who managed to get his cries of "RUN THE BALL, ANDY" (among others) into the live broadcast.

I think that Thaler’s point, though admittedly not well presented, is a bit stronger than Brian makes it out to be. Massey and Thaler measure total compensation to players. They don’t distinguish between guaranteed money and non guaranteed money. But for players at the top of the draft, most of their pay comes from guaranteed money. The veteran deals that create the benchmark are largely non-guaranteed. Therefore, there is much more leeway to cut costs for veterans if they stop performing than for draft picks if they bust.
brza on Stray Post-Draft Thoughts
Things You Learn Only By Watching Three Days Of Press Conferences. PE.com is flush with new video content this weekend, including three Andy Reid pressers, introductory pressers for Graham and Allen, and a whole bunch of phone calls with draft picks (and even a Skype call or two). It obviously isn't scintillating stuff, but that doesn't mean I didn't watch pretty much all of it. As a result, I now know the following things: (a) the Eagles were happy with the state of their offensive line entering the draft,Sam Bradford Rams jersey, (b) a lot of the non-corners on the Eagles can apparently play corner, (c) Andy Reid and Brad Childress ran the spread offense with freshman quarterback Greg Wyatt at the University of Northern Arizona in 1986, and (d) Brent Celek is the backup longsnapper now that Darren Howard is gone. As always, the devil is in the details
According to Massey and Thaler, although the top picks appear to be overpaid relative to later picks, draft picks in all rounds are underpaid relative to veteran players. Thaler's own research contradicts his recent statement that it makes “absolutely no sense to be giving so much money to unproven rookies.” It makes perfect sense to me.
For those who doubt the intentions of the Central Party, we encourage you to join us for daily broadcasts from our headquarters. Who's This Year's Brent Celek?
First of all, me either, but that's pretty cool, Here's an ESPN feature piece on her if you want to learn more.
Surplus value peaks shallowly at the bottom of the first round and through the second round. That's where teams get the biggest bang for the buck. But still, the draft pick surplus is significantly positive throughout the entire draft. Contrary to Thaler's remarks in his recent NTY [sic] article, draft picks are bargains compared to veterans.
I tell you that story because I think it applies to this year's Eagles. Sure, they're going to put the best team they can on the field once the games start, but as we saw with the recent veteran departures, you can be a fringe player or you can be an old player, but you can't be both.
The Eagles really did clear out a lot of dead wood this offseason. I was looking over the roster to see if there was any chance they could fit anything close to the 13 players they drafted onto the squad this year and ... yeah, they pretty much could.
As a consolation prize for not playing, that's not quite as much fun.
I will discuss their methodology more below, but the main reason for this post is that Thaler recently wrote an article in the New York Times, where he said:
Another story about this coach: After I asked him before one away game if he was planning to stick with the same line-up that had sleepwalked through the last two weeks, he thought it would be just a dandy motivational tactic to repeat that conversation on the team bus ride there. Mr. Popularity that afternoon.
If you trade Donovan McNabb, I don't see how you can let go of Vick. With a team that won 11 games -- and should finally have the holes patched by next year -- you don't go into the season with just one guy at that position (unless that guy is Peyton Manning). You need a back-up who can hold down the fort, should Kolb have any kind of serious injury.
PhxPhilly on Thirteen Of Them, Three Of Us
The important thing to remember, yet again, is that there isn't any rebuilding going on at all.
April 17, 2010 Thinking About Vick Posted by Derek
Ah, Donovan. The natural leader.
It has recently come to our attention that there is a minority faction of counter-revolutionaries spreading vicious and unfounded rumors regarding the Central Party's intentions for the 2010 American Football campaign.
Garcia would have Kolb's back. Vick might try to stab him in it.
Interesting battles:

One particularly interesting statement by Reid:
"When we lost, instead of looking at themselves and asking what they could have done better, there were some guys who were questioning the coaches and the game plan. But you can't bring that negativity to the team, especially when you have a young locker room like we have. Because then the young guys hear it and it spreads, and you can't have that and be successful."
BountyBowl
Compare those highlights to the (very limited) glimpses we can get of Fenuki Tupou (at left tackle) starting at about the seven-minute mark of this one. It's pretty striking.

(For those who are interested, though I'd used the Soviet Central Media gimmick before, it wasn't until I saw these two truly awful shirts on offer on the Eagles' site that I was moved to play with the photo editing software,Tim Tebow Broncos jersey, Also, for a most excellent sampling of Eastern bloc humor, check out Rolcats; for some reason, it just doesn't get old for me.)
The Three-Day Prime Time Draft Format. ,Devin McCourty Patriots jersey; I suspected that I would prefer the new draft format,Trent Williams Redskins jersey, and now that it's complete, I'm embarrassed that I didn't realize just how much I would enjoy it. OF COURSE the draft is better as a prime time TV show with an extra day thrown in. This is the only real football event between February and September and we're desperate for fresh content -- hardly a tough sell. In fact, if they wanted to drag it out even more I'm listening. Maybe something between the current three-day format and a round per day for an entire week? Also, I'll post the obligatory links to the stories about soaring TV ratings especially versus other sports (though the Draft always outdraws the NBA and NFL playoffs). Even with the Flyboys game on Thursday, I still didn't mind it. (Speaking of the Flyboys, watching the Devils roll over and die reminded me of a certain football team's performance in Dallas last January -- nice to be on the other end of that.)
unfortunately, austin collie colts jerseys are big business. it is estimated that tens of millions of dollars are lost each year to counterfeiters.nbsp;
As we have stated on numerous occasions in official Central Party publications, nothing could be further from The Truth!
Back in January, when I was still trying to hold on to the hope that the Eagles wouldn't trade McNabb, I made a point about Vick:
All just makes one wonder how much Rocca really wants to keep living in New Jersey.
The Associate Central Bureau Of Executive Information And Public Affairs
Thirteen Of Them, Three Of Us
The bias this year is going to be in the direction of the young guys. Hope they draft well.
On whether he expected to come out of the draft with so many players: "I think you look at a two or three year plan, and you see that there are some people that are up after next year. So you go through and work the numbers, I wasn't sure we'd get this many, this is quite a few, I thought it would be more or less around 11. You get a little higher than that, that's okay, but I thought we'd be right around 11."
I count four "sir's" in this one. I'm telling you, this is going to be a fun group of players to watch grow up,
And:

Kudos to Reuben Frank for getting this one.
It turns out that the N.F.L. and the players’ union are trying to renegotiate their collective bargaining agreement. One topic reported to be on the bargaining table is shifting some of the pay away from early draft picks.
Yeah, I still get a kick out of things like this (third comment). Chrome's built-in translation function isn't too shabby if you care about the content.
It looks pretty bad the first week and it costs you some money, but then you don't have to worry about it for the next few years,
Stray Post-Draft Thoughts
The owners and players should find common ground on this issue, because it makes absolutely no sense to be giving so much money to unproven rookies, many of whom turn out to be busts. By reducing the premium paid to the highest draft choices, the league could restore the redistributive goal that the draft was created to achieve. And veteran players would probably agree with the principle that eight-figure salaries should be reserved for players who have already proved themselves on the field.

While the other fellas will likely go a bit deeper than I on the football aspects of the recently completed draft, I'd still like to register a bit of shock regarding the number of players that the Eagles actually selected. Thirteen really seems like a lot (apparently the most since 1986, when the draft was still 12 rounds). When the Birds were tiptoeing their way back through the second round and stockpiling picks in the fourth and fifth rounds, I assumed the plan was to use those picks to move back up or maneuver around a bit. They couldn't possibly take that many players, right? Nope. They took thirteen.
There's A Plan Here
This, right here, is why real journalists think bloggers are sort of annoying. Typing up completely unsupported speculation when we'll know for sure one way or the other in a few hours.
However, that isn’t to say that I like this paper. In fact, I have always had issues with it, for several reasons. One reason is what Brian called the brick-layer theory:
While some enemies of the People may suggest that the recent purges of veteran revolutionaries like Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Sheldon Brown, Darren Howard, Will Witherspoon, Jon Runyan, Tra Thomas and Brian Dawkins indicate that the Central Party is willing to trade success in our coming campaign for a more frugally compensated set of revolutionary comrades, we might remind you that the Central Party always has the People's best interests in mind! Have we not purged veteran revolutionaries with great success in the past? ,Earl Thomas Seahawks jersey; Have we not delivered semi-bountiful harvests and periodically reliable factories? Trust us, comrades, the fields of the NFL entry draft will be rich with opportunity this year! And if not this year, then they will be even richer next year (should we choose to stockpile resources for a coming harvest).
Yours in revolutionary brotherhood,
"Every year you step into the huddle with Jason [Campbell], it was like he was learning as well," Portis said. "I was trying to figure out if Donovan had played in this system before. He came in with the terminology; he's already making checks and readjusting receivers' routes. He looked good. . . . You got a proven guy in Donovan who had been outcast and feels as if he has something to prove, and he's here. I think everyone on this roster feels the same way."
Anyway, when it was my turn to keep score, I of course couldn't leave well enough alone. So I'd up the level of detail, keep track of pitch counts, etc. No charts and tables, but I'm sure the numbers focus won't surprise you.
A Draft That Might, Potentially,Sean Weatherspoon Falcons jersey, Mean Something, But Let's Not Get, Like, Wildly Flipped Out If We Decide To Trade Down Or Select An Offensive Lineman
In the end, I hope we make the switch. I'd love the irony of shooing away Garcia to avoid one potential QB controversy while bringing him back to short-circuit another.
The headline looks like a Martin Luther hymn. I just tried singing it to Ein feste Burg. It almost matched up.

The fact he is not going to trial is enough for him to be thankful for, I do agree that Pittsburgh shouldn't trade him. He will be punished, it is not for us to decide if the punishment fits the alleged crime. However, Pittsburgh would essentially be rebuilding.
Good blog, besides the absurd thought about Jerry Angelo dealing for this guy, First of all, they believe they have their quarterback. Secondly, the Bears have nothing of value to trade, at all! You know this ROCK

Rock I believe the suspension is appropriate. Ben would be wise not to appeal it either. Even though they are simply allegations, they are horrendous.
